Lucas Blalock Tessa sitting 2016 |
In this image i can see a persons arms and head and a coat on a chair and the face has been cut out at most parts or been turned into a scribble like drawing the body of the person has been completely taken away from the image, the photographer has uses a natural lighting and a very plain background with only a few items that have no color except for a red wire and blue coat. The mood of the picture is quite sad as it is like the person is not comfortable in themself and had to mess up their face and get rid of their body to be able to feel comfortable with their image. Portraits normally show us the person fully and every detail of them they will also show a characteristic of the person however, in this portrait you can not tell who the person is as their face has been turned into a scribble like drawing and the body has been taken away leaving just the arms, you also would not be able to tell what the person is like as the photographer has used a plain background with a few plain objects. This image would upset peoples expectations as they would like to see the persons face and like to see the expressions of the person. To create this image i think that Lucas Blalock took various images with the person and the with just the objects and took the images into photoshop and got rid of most parts of the person messed up their face and maybe brightened the picture up a little. To make this image i would start off with making sure i get my composition right and have the things in places i would need them i would then begin with photographing them, afterwards i would begin taking images of the person who i am photographing then i would take all images into photoshop and play around with how much of the person i want in the image and what parts of the person i would like to hide or mess up like Lucas Blalock did in his image. I would play around with multiple different possibilities and see which one i like best. Personally this image makes me very confused but i like it, the things that confuse me about this image are why did the photographer decided to only use the head and the arms of the person? why are there little bits of color around such as the red wires in the corner or the blue coat in the middle on the chair? why did the photographer distort the persons face a lot was it on the persons decision or was it his? I don't really understand how i feel about this image as i like it as i would like my image to be distorted and i think it looks strange and really cool but what i don't like about this image is how much of the person he got rid of and it just looks weird to me the head is just floating in the air or it looks as if it is connected to the coat on the chair. If i was able to speak to the artist the three questions i would ask him would be why did you decided to leave the arms on the person when you got rid of the rest of the body? why is the persons face distorted so much? and what made you decided to do something like this is there a story behind it? After reading the article about the artist i have discovered that he does not ever really have a plan in what he is doing with his images and just free hands things, he enjoys using the most useless tools the ones that primary school children would use. I have also been able to see that he enjoys humor and sees something funny in lots of things. Now that i know that the artist does not have a plan to how he is going to distort his images i think i like the image a little more as to see how without a plan and using random tools and he comes out with an image like that is really admirable and i would like to be able to do something like that. This image is related to the theme of disguise very well as no one would be able to tell who the person is and it does not show anything to do with the person in the image.

to create my images i am going to take images of myself and images of my surroundings and then put those photos onto photoshop and start playing around with different tools and different compositions and create multiple different distortion pictures.
picture evaluation
These are the images i took today to help me create a piece based off of Lucas Blalock Tessa Sitting. To be able to complete the work later on i am going to take my images into photoshop and play around with the tools to create a disguised photo of myself. I will use various techniques that Blalock used such as removing parts of the body and distorting parts of the face. I will also use some other things such as adding letters in place of body parts or adding things coming out of part of my face. I tried going for as plain backgrounds as i could to be able to keep elements of Blalocks work as he uses plain backgrounds to make his artwork standout.
